commercial plants/shrubs
so i know that when planting trees if it cost you 100 i know you charge 200 at least for the tree so if it dies or whatever it comes out of you pocket, but do you do that iwht plant and shrubs as well? like planting rhodendrons, high bush blueberry plants, and barharbor junipers etc? thanks

One year warrantee on every-thing we plant. Unless the client screws some-thing up. Or, I had a garden flood out because a neighbor left their hose turned on. That killed the Azaleas.

Sort of depends on what you can purchase your materials and what the market will bear as much as anything else. Except maybe what you need to make to cover your assets and overhead

100% markup on trees and shrubs, that means twice the purchase price. No guarantee for the plant material unless I maintain for at least 1 year. After that if the material dies it would be because of the owners care or an act of God, neither of which I am I control of.

If I am buying True Wholesale, 100% markup would barely be what the retails store are selling the Trees and Shrubs. Planted and Guaranteed could easily be 200% of my plant cost. |

100% of retail.
I buy a #10 weeping willow for $30. Probably $35 pro-rating the delivery. It's $90 on my yard. Some people will buy it and put it in themselves. If I put it in, it's $180. I don't really want tree planting jobs. Takes me away from my primary business, growing trees, but lots of people will pay for me to plant the trees. (I'm an hour's drive from my major market.) So I will accept 2 days a week of planting once the May/June rush is over. If I can I hire a kid who is on the local high school football team to help. I pay him $12/hour (about 1.5 times minimum wage -- he can get 10 for pushing gas.) Planting price includes first batch of fertilizer, weed barrier, mulch, and staking if needed. |
