Fords 5.4 Liter, Who runs one?

Hey guys im looking into some trucks and was just wondering if the 5.4l would be to small for a srw f350 4x4? Im looking at work trucks, standard cab base models. Thinking of going crew cab. Just wondering who has one in a f350 and can give me some insight on if its to small of a motor. Please let me know what you haul and what not. Thanks so much guys!

I can't say from expierience cause i've never had a 5.4 in an f350 but I did have an f150 with it. but pretty much everyone i've talked to with a 1 ton or 3/4 ton with the 5.4 is way under powered. you will be just as bad fuel mileage with that motor in the f350 with the 5.4 as you would with the v10, so you might as well get the v10 and have lots of power.

I have a 2001 f-250 with the 5.4 that I use as a backup. Way underpowerd for pulling heavy loads. It is sufficient for a landscape trailer trailer with mowers..... dosnt pull my 12ft dump trailer full of mulch too well up hills......

I have a 2001 F350 4x4 super cab I use for my truck camper and its a fuel sucking dog of a truck. Plain and simple. The 5.4L is worthless in a heavy duty truck. It may just be plain worthless period!!

I have a chevy 2500 with a 6.0 liter and a ford f-250 with a 5.4 liter and the chevy will run circles around the ford (as far as power is concerned) and with a trailer hooked up the gas mileage is about the same.

I pull my enclosed with the 5.4. It does okay unless your pulling any kind of grade. Expect 4000+ RPM if your pulling up hill. It's perfectly fine for a work truck IMO. I have my Tundra if I need to get somewhere fast

i can agree with advanced had a 5.4 in my f-250 just bought a 2006 chevy 3500 dump with the 6.0..better fuel mileage power everything...plus i bought my f-250 with 40,000 miles on it and we couldn't even get the spark plugs out ourselves...what a nightmare

I use a 2001 F 150 4x4 long bed extended cab to pull my tractor around. It pulls it ok enough except on a grade. But it is absolutely horedous on fuel. After the harley and tractor are paid off I plan on going with a diesel. This truck only gets 12 in the city and 14.5 on the highway with cruise set . Empty with no load. On the other hand it now has 194,500 miles and still runs pretty well, and the front end has held up. These trucks are notorious for going through coils pretty regularly . There is a coil on top of each spark plug. So, I am pleased with mine as a whole. Fuel consumption is my only complaint.
And as far as those spark plugs go - on the Ford modular style motors the spark plugs are really deep inside the motor. I had to use several extentions to reach them. Be sure to tape the extentions together before attempting to change the plug as if the extentions come apart you will have a hell of a time getting it out.

I run 3 -5.4s. Not a bad motor at all. If your looking to tow bobcats or stone you will want a diesel. If all your pulling is a landscape trailer it will do fine.

Have a 09 f250 w/ a 5.4 pulls landscape trailor fine. I also plow and run a sander in the bed, again more than enough power. However if you are going to be towing some really heavy trailors for long distinances often , look at the v10 or diesel. Also the 2011 f250-350 super dutys have a new 6.2L V8 no 5.4 or V10 gasser>
