JD 325 deck engagement

Hi all, I have a JD 325 lawn tractor. Lately when I pull the switch to engage the 48" deck I have been getting a delay and recently I had a delay that lasted a few minutes before it engaged. It started in the beginning of this year and notice a slight delay and the delay has increased since. There are also times when there is no delay. My assumption is that the switch is faulty but I thought I would check in with the pros to get their opinion before I head down to the dealer. The tractor has about 705 hours on it and was manufactured in 1998.
