HAZWOPER course

Has anyone taken this course and if so do you have any words of wisdom for me? I am starting the one week training for the HAZWOPER course next week. I have been trying to figure out what subject areas are covered and maybe how its set up, so I am not going into the training completely flying blind.

What in the h*ll is Hazwoper ?

If your talking about Hazmat/Dangerous goods training it usually isn't that bad just a lot of info to take in in a short period of time.

As for pre studying I wouldn't do it go in with a blank canvas and start from there.

Hazardous waste operations an emergency responce. HAZWOPER, It's not to difficult, I've been certified for almost ten years. Just pay attention to the ciriculum. If you need to know site specific SPCC (spill prevention,contol an counter measures) then it's a lttle bit harder. Make yourself familiar with dot an cas handbooks an info. If you know what materials are on site an then there specific hazards.

I took the 40 hour HAZWOPER 2 years ago, wasn't too bad. It's not rocket science, you'll be fine. Go about this class just like you would at college and you'll make out okay. Just pay attention to terms and concepts brought up multiple times, as one might expect, they're important! Being in class for 40 hours in a 5 day period sucks.

i signed up for it.. then i realized do i really need the money that bad to worked on a haz site and the answer was no, lol.. so i got my osha 30 instead...

oh its even better than that LOL. This is a 40 hour course over a 4 day period. I am sure that I will be fine, I mean the money is going to be really good for being my first job out of college. I think for the money I can study for one more week and then begin my new job.

Pick up the 2008 ERG Guidebook. It has every possible chemical and hazardous material manufactured in the US. It has everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We carry them on all our fire apparatus. I went to haz-mat school for the fire dept and that book will save lives. It lists what needs to be done from the time you arrive on scene of the incident.

I got a few books from a buddy who is going to be a fire fighter but I am not sure how much will be useful for the test I am taking. I am not sure what it is going to encompass. I mean I am sure that fire fighters will need to know more than a laborer for an environmental clean up company will need to know which is the job that I am taking. I guess I will see on Monday when I have the first day of this class.

as others have said pay attention and you'll be fine. as with most cert classes sometimes it's better to learn the answers to the test than to try to think in terms of situations. so don't overthink anything.
