For the FH680V-DS22 it is 16041-7024 shaft-carburetor, the DS22 is my specific model, look on your engine, there will be a small sticker with the whole model number on it, then cross reference it to the 16041A shaft on the diagram at partstree.com, price is in the $33 neighborhood, depending where you buy.

I would still add the oil cooler, its cheap and will make your engine last longer. These parts:

Yeah, why just go to a 23? Order the shaft for a 25 and be glad you did. Always get the largest engine option available!

Some of my parts were back ordered the oring gasket never came in so after 2 weeks I just pulled the gasket from a new oil filter and it seated right into place then I put the old oil filter gasket on the new filter. Now if I can can just get the old oil tube off I will be good to go. After that I will be messing with the carb and governor. Oh Boy!

With the 25hp upgrade did you guys also have to change your spark plugs? My parts are ordered and should be in any day. Thanks, Chris

I didn't, the part number for the plug on these are all the same (6578). Your plug should be good for 500 hours (or one year) according to the manual.

Sorry to revive an old thread, I want to do this to my Scag Tiger cub that has the FH601v-ds29 but I see that there are multiple main jets listed.... even for the ds22 in the thread. Isn't there a chance of running too lean by changing the shaft out to the one for the fh721v and not having the correct main jet? I just don't want to cook my engine for the sake of a few more hp if that could happen.

I don't think I ever noticed that - I thought this thread, in the early portion of it, discussed the jets and possible differences in them, it's been a long time so I can't remember that now. I have been running my engine now for a while modified this way with no issues (that I'm aware of anyway), but I'm only a part-timer, so my mower doesn't run 40 hrs a week either. Perhaps some of the more mechanically technical members can look deeper into this. I'd say if your not running your engine full time go for it though, I'd opt for the oil cooler add on mentioned earlier though. It's cheap and well worth it, I'd buy it even if I didn't swap the throttle shafts, anything that will make your engine run cooler is a good add on.
