old Gravely stops running when hot
I have an old pre-1969 Gravely 10 HP commeriial walk behind with a 1 cyl Kohler engine. it is used as a tiller. It runs fine until the PTO is engaged. Then, after tilling 2-3 rows, it starts sputtering and bogs down and basically quits tilling. Sometimes it simply dies. I unengage the PTO and sometimes I can get it to start running normal again but usually it sits there struggling. A little black smoke is emmitted. Then, when it cools down, I can again till 2-3 rows then it does it again. Does anyone have a theory as to what is wrong?

Gravely Help
Hello,
This site is devoted to older Gravely tractors. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gravelyclub/ You will find the help you need there or you can try the Mechanic and Repair section on this site. Is the tractor a Commercial 10 or a Commercial 10A not that it matters with your issue. Gravely_Man

thanks
Thanks. I will try that site. I don't know which model it is. I inherited it from my father in law who had every attachment known to mankind for this machine. We keep it going for sentimental reasons in addition to the fact that it is an awesome machine.

Really sounds like a coil, being a single cylinder it will die when it reaches operation tempature.
