Sod with a new customer?

Hey recently picked a new customer due to she was not pleased with her other lawn guy now her other lawn guy had laid sod in the front yard. Now he did not level the top soil out when laying the sod so there are a few dips in her lawn she wants taken care of I was thinking just putting some top soil to fill in the 3 and 4 inch dips on top of the grass and see if it will come up thru the top soil with out hving to tear up the sod level it and put new sod down cos it has taken roots if anyone has came across this and has any advice please post?

3 or 4 inches of soil on top of the grass willl likely kill it. How many dips? The correct thing to do would be to take the sod up level and lay sod back down. If they want to gradually add soil you could, but would take a while to bring it up 4 inches. Its a shame it wasnt done properly to begin with. Throwing sod is a no brainer, its the prep work that counts.

Thanks for the input I figured the soil on top was not a good idea the home owner had just said it and there is about 12 dips bout two feet wide and long I had never seen a sod job done this bad I have picked about 5 of this guys customers lately due to not doing the job right and smelling like he had been drinking so I'm guessing he was pretty wasted laying sod and that's how it was done unlevel but thank you again for the input

if you put that much soil on, you should seed it and take care of it like its a newly seeded area. It CAN fill in and look good, I've done it, but it takes a few months before it becomes really filled in. After it is well established it might be greener then the surrounding area, and you'll need to fertilize the whole lawn to get it all to "match"

Of course you could re-seed. But this customer just paid for a sod job, if he wanted seed he would have saved himself a bunch of money and seeded in the first place.
