Thermal finish on granite

I bought some granite treads for a job. The front is rock-faced, the top has a thermal finish and the sides are polished (probably just from being cut). Can I thermal finish the sides to match the top myself? I remember hearing someone talk about using a propane torch to accomplish this. Is it really something I should be attempting?

if you have never done it no! you use a rose bud torch and water. if it helps you can buy chisels and bits for hiltis that will do a close match.

has to be a real plumbers style acetalyne(sp?) torch with a rose bud tip.

The sawn faces probably wont looked polished. I would say they have been polished afterward.

Go with acetylene. Absolutely do it yourself. Wear eye protection and long sleeves and gloves. Borrow a set of tanks for steel. Go fast enough to keep it popping. Have water on site so the stone doesn't get too hot and crack. On the other hand, if it won't be seen don't goof with it. If the top edge has the blade cut mark on it, soften it with a 'pitching' chisel.
