Hunter at Home Depot

I had heard they were there, but it wasn't till I was there shopping for a new garbage disposal today that I saw them....

End cap display of an array of Hunter products... Pro-Spray in 4 in and 6 in., PGPs, PGJs, PGV valves, both inline and A/S, replacement solenoids, adjustable nozzles and finally, MP Rotators, packaged individually for just under $5 each.

There was even a special bilingual Home Depot/ Hunter brochure about MP Rotators.

I talked with my local Hunter rep about this the other day. Hunters strategy seemed to be that they felt they would get the home center sales because people would buy what there system is.

I say he is wrong. I dont think they will sell very well because anyone who buys there always buys the cheapest crap they sell. Most homeowners havent a clue what is a good quality product. They typically end up with sure-pops or orbit sprays and cheap o rotors. They figure whatever is 50cents cheaper is better.

I suspect this will have very little impact on us as contractors other than to bring the counter price of hunter product down. Hunters reputation will probably go down with it.

I only saw the Orbit and Watermaster crapola the last time I peeked at the HD inventory - I bet they stock warm-climate stores differently.

I just ordered some MP 2000, 90-210s thru Ewing's "Blue Monday" special for about a buck less than the HD price.... but it was only the particular model for a few hours today. Blue Monday is their new July promotion for account and cash card holders, just on Mondays, only until 3PM, only online orders.

However, most their MP pricing, even in bag quantities of ten, is higher than the HD single nozzle price.

Gee, you'd think they'd sell the SRV valve to home centers
