YIKES!! It's A FEMALE!!
Hello All!
I am new to the garden maintenance business (2 months) and found this site to be terrific! I hope it's OK that I'm a female type business owner. I truly appreciate all the information you all pass around. I do not mow lawns - I clean out planting beds, plant perennials- annuals, mulch, edge beds, de-weed, prune... lately however I've been getting requests for small landscape installations. I have been a gardener for 25 years, work in a school Sept-May and started this for extra income in the summer. Hope to increase my business next year and maintain what I have worked on this summer. I'm so glad people procrastinate....it keeps me in business! If you've never experienced the joy of accomplishing more than you can imagine, plant a garden. ~Robert Brault

Good luck! Sounds like you do all the stuff I hate doing! Guys like me need people like you to refer customers to with stuff we don't have the time, knowledge or inclination to deal with. I begrudgingly pull weeds and work in flower beds at my municipal day job, the whole time wishing I could be out mowing and not bent over destroying my back.
And why do people like day lilys so much? When theyre not blooming they look like crap!

Hey AOD, Thanks!!
Call me crazy - but I LOVE to pull weeds! Wish I lived in your area - we could collaborate! I totally agree with you on day lilies - even when they do bloom they don't last long enough! I cut them back underneath. You have loads of equipment! Hope you are staying cool in this heat!

Yes day lilys suck. The small amount of design work I have done I always push for mulch, rocks and ornamental grasses for full sun areas. Black eyed susans aern't bad either. Hostas are great, they just don't like full sun. I basically have two kinds of trucks and equipment, the kind I am making payments on and the kind thats rusty and broken down.

HEY................Who you callin black-eyed??? LOL
I love Hostas and Grasses - textures are everything! They have come out with sun-loving Hostas - no burn. Have you checked out heuchera (coral bells)...They now come in amazing colors and are sun tolerant. Plus they are evergreen! I basically have one kind of equipment - whatever is in the back of my HHR!

Thanks everyone! I feel so welcome! It's nice to have somewhere to go for information - from real people - who are in the business!
My brother helps me so he is my muscle! He gets irritated with me sometimes because I dwell on details...but that's how I run my business. Happy Bed Keeping! I'm off to my own bed keeping...
