Looking at theRobin-Subaru website, the 22 hp puts out about 34 lbft of torque (46 Nm) at 2400 rpm:
![]() A Kohler Command Pro CV23 (they no longer have a 22 HP model) has a peak torque rating of 40 lbft (54.5 Nm). Even a Kawasaki FS651 is rated for 40 lbft (54.2 Nm). Briggs doesn't have torque ratings in their specs for some reason. So on paper, it seems the Robin might be a little weak, but it all depends on the application. Might be just fine on the 54" Z-Beast. Like you say, we'll have to wait for someone to report in. |

I'd agree that people may feel they "have" to put in bad reviews, but they also feel the have to defend their product if they think it's getting a bad rap. In the past, nobody bothered to give good reviews, but that's not the case anymore.
Just look at Amazon. Any decent product has a few bad reviews and a ton of good reviews. There are never equal parts good and bad, or even a 1 to 5 bad:good ratio. |

You know the interesting thing is that according to Gordon " No load RPM was 3420 RPM. This mower can meet all specs at 3500 RPM so it can be turned up a bit"
All these specs (you posted) are at about 2500 to 2600 RPM. At 3400RPM the difference is about 2 NM. Still in favor of the Kawasaki but it looks like the Subru engine maintains its torque much more consistantly. going from 2000 to 3600 RPM the The Subru starts at 45nm Peaks at about 46 (2500rpm) then drops to 43nm at 3600 RPM The Kawasaki starts at 54nm and maintains this to almost 2400RPM where it starts to drop fast , ending up at about 44 NM at 3600rpm. I don't like the fact that they have these running so high. Most of the Generators using this engine are running at about 2900RPM. You run a home mower at full throttle, not a commercial. Time will tell how they stand up. 54 to 44 |

![]() Just for giggles, I went back to Kohler's info for the CV23 and found its torque also drops from a peak of 40 lbft @ 2400 to about 33 lbft @ 3600. ![]() So upon further review, maybe the Subaru is a quite comparable engine. |

Go read the other "Beast" topic here on L.S. The latest review, posted an actual owner, should convince anyone that GXI, "Beast" mowers, are not a good choice right now.

I'm not sure if what he posted was a dealbreaker.
He mentioned the unit throwing Belts (which has been reported) but then mentioned that customer service said the belts should be an inch shorter . This is odd, but if it turns out that this solves the issue then this is a relativley easy fix. His other two issues were that : He mentioned the hand break being extreamly difficult to set, and something happened to the right wheel motor (noises etc...) Personally I believe they may be related, In Greybeards video he set the brake pretty easy so I think on of the cables or spindles locked Hopefully Gordon can report on what happened when they get the mower back. But from what as reported I didn't see anything that suggested a flawed hardware design. |

I have come to the conclusion that the Beast is far from ready for commercial use. As for homeowner use I believe its very questionable. At this point with various HD, delivery, QC and quality problems its a gamble. Not unlike other chinese products out there...
