The electric wire is strung along on insulators, so it doesn't touch the wood or anything else. We have a split rail on one place, that the deer can't reach through, to eat anything, so we have an electric on the other side of the plants, close enuf to the split rail, that they can't/won't walk in between.

The concept to keep in mind is that, they won't be standing within 3' of the wire, to browse on anything. Less distance with less zapping power. We always get the best possible zap.

I've always been told that deer don't like Milorganite and it's great for anything that grows.
