Excavator narrowed down to two

I am ready to buy in the next week or two. I've got it narrowed down to a 01 kobelco 160 and an 06 case 160. The kobelco has 6400 hours and the case has 2600 hours. So obviously the prices are as far apart as the hours but they are both good deals for what they are and both very local. So just looking to check and ask as much as I can regarding potential problems or things to look at on these years, makes, models, etc

Thanks

My opinion may be different then others , and as much as i love our new kobelco's i have heard that the machines from that era were not the greatest. My money would be on the Case. How are they both equipped?

This is an sk 160 dynamic acera. Were these not known to be the best? I thought that was the older sk150. The kobelco has a nice progressive link thumb. The case is plumbed and manual thumb.

5 years is a lot of wear and tear, even if the hours were the same. These things sit outside in the elements. No specific insight to those models though

I've looked at the case and of course it's nice with that kind of hours. I'm going to look at the kobelco this weekend. I'm hoping it's in good shape because it is half the price.

Whats your max budget? We are also looking at units in the 14-17 ton class. The pc138's seem to be a very useful machine. Did you get a tandem/tri?

I bought a CASE CX160 with 3900 hours on it last year. Mine is an 04 with hyd. coupler and prolink thumb. I am really happy with the machine. Great power, it is a little slower than a Kobelco 140 that I ran, but I have zero regrets with this machine. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

No I'll have to have it moved. I need to start working at my own property where I am building. So it may only move from there a few times in the next year. Budget was supposed to be under 60. The case is a little over, but again the kobelco is half. anything in the middle, price wise has even higher hours so that's what I'm dealing with. I've even been looking in a 300+ mile radius all summer. These two just happen to be within 20 mins of me. I'll be putting a deposit on something this week.
