Getting tired of low ballers!

I have been in this industry for 13 years now and it pisses me off when other landscapers and lawn care providers(usually a one man or one woman show), consistently low ball on their prices and do a terrible job. The customer gets so pissed off that they don't know if they could even trust another company to do the job right. How would you guys deal with someone like this in your area?

How would you deal with them? I don't think it is for you to deal with. Customers are grown people. They know how to hire and fire.

The sad thing is this person has been around this area for awhile. He lives not to far from me. What bothers me is people in this area want amazing things done to their yard but want it done at the price he is offering. Then he does a very terrible job. How would you compete with this guy?

you don't compete...he charges less but does a worse job...so if they want a better job they will hire you and pay more...some customers want the cheapest thing and don't really care how their yard looks as long as it is cut and others care more about how it looks and are willing to pay more to have it look better

My prices right now are $1 a minute for mowing. With 13 years of experience I think it is reasonable. This guy has admitted that he is not in this field for an income, he uses the money to buy equipment. His full time job is working for the township.

It's life deal with it, that's all I can say. Seriously you can't "deal with him" really unless he is breaking some kind of law you can't do anything, and even then you would be bitchmade. Just suck it up, with 13 years in the biz you must be doing good for yourself, so stop worrying about it and keep mowing.

Occasionally I will see someone like you describe when I am mowing, and after they leave I will see the homeowner out standing in the yard. In that case I'll walk over and see if they want to change their LCO with someone who cares. But I don't make this regular practice it makes you look like an ass, only when I can see the homeowner isn't happy with the service. I don't go knocking on doors, only when they are outside. Usually they will just walk up after I am done however and ask for a price.

Actually with that price you have plenty of room to go down. We do this full time for 35 years and we average half of what you are charging. And by the way most of the other good companies are priced about the same. Funny how competition changes your thinking about what is reasonable. I don't blame you for pricing as high as possible.

what? that's a good price. I charge 45$ on corner lot and they usually end up taking 45mins. I don't price by the minute I price by the size.

My smaller lots that arent on a corner are $35 because they aren't a corner and that take 35mins. $25 for a mow, $5 for trimming, and $5 for edging. Corner lots are $30 for mow, $10 for edging, and $5 for trimming.

Seems fair and just happens for work out to $1 a minute, I didn't go into this planning on getting a dollar a minute it just happened.

I'm sure as hell not going to go any cheaper than that I wouldn't make any money.
