Dirt cheap fertilizer

I bought some fertilizer for 7.30 a bag at Lowe's.

Very cheap so I was wondering if it could actually hurt my backyard if I put it down at a rate of .75# of N per Kft2.

Basically I have seen posts that say something about a salt buildup and I am not so sure about it having so much sulfur for slow release.

You are about 20% SCU in that product, pretty low.
Dropping that down at the rate you mention should not hurt anything at all, especially in the fall. BUT, you are dealing with southern turfgrass so I must defer my thoughts.......

Yep, that's cheap. I got some of the same stuff yesterday. It is Pennington and as another thread some weeks ago (from a Pennington rep?) said it is a closeout for Lowe's because Pennington changing formulation or something.
I normally use Lesco products but I was five bags short of what I needed yesterday and my John Deere outlet is an hour away.
So I decided to check out Lowe's to see what I might be able to use.
I paid $6.74 for a 40 lb. bag. The curious thing was this: I first saw the price outside in the garden center Regular $26.46. Clearance $6.74. When I went in the store to pay for it they had a skid on the floor (near the chemicals) which said Clearance $12.74. Of course, I made sure it rang up at the lower price.

Looks like a nearly "all mineral" product since only a very small amount of the N is slow release (only 6.8%) -- the rest has no slow release. The FE (iron) they got in there will STAIN concrete, and it isn't even worth using as a winterizer. I would actually PAY money to keep junk like this out of our warehouse. No wonder why it's on "clearance".

This product will probably provide good short term results. However it is high in salt content and is not a good choice for improving turf health.

Larry, I saw your son-in-law on 60 Minutes, he is an American Hero. God bless him and all our military personnel for all they do to protect us. I was also impressed that 60 Minutes followed with a story that highlighted the ideals of religious tolerance that our country was founded on.

Thanks Barry -- kinda weird that our Founding Fathers had it right over 200 years ago. Recently, I think America is going backwards. Go figure, cuz it should be the other way around. Thanks for the kind words, Larry

Well, they did get a lot of things wrong such as slavery, women's rights, only landowners could vote, etc.

Anyway, god bless your son-in-law.

that would make a great late fall fert for cool season lawns. For some reason, the Lowes in my area have the small 15lb bags marked down but not the 45lb ones. The 15lb bags are $4. Still cheap.

How is this high in salt content? It only has 5% potash, with a N:K ratio of about 6 to 1. The couldn't imagine the chlorine content would be much higher than 4%. Remeber that most common fertilizers don't contain SOP. I don't see how this is saltier than anything else.

I think this would make a great winterizer for cool-season turf. That's the only thing I would use it for. Although I usually prefer a 3:1.

I picked up several 48 pound bags for $6.74 also. Some Lowes had it at $9.44, just show them the receipt from the other Lowes where you bought it for $6.74 and they will honor the lower price.
