Equipment Hours and Purchase

Hi,

I have an older snapper 52" hydro walk behind with chariot I am thinking of replacing. I moved 5 years ago and my new place is bigger and bumpier. I was thinking of stepping up to a ztr. I mow about 1 1/2 acre.

I was wondering how many hours the engines are good? Gas, Diesel.

Are all the name brands similar in durability?

My main mower is a CaseIH 595 tractor with a 7' mower. The hydro has been my trim mower. I have slowly added an orchard, pool area, and broke the lawn up so the big machine makes more turns. I am thinking a 6' ztr could be my trim mower, get the areas I broke up, and save my forearms/body from the bumps. The chariot and mower pivot over bumps an it makes the handles travel a ton.

I get 7 HP per foot with the Case and I never have to slow down. I was thinking a diesel model with 35hp and a 6' deck would give me 5 hp per foot to the deck. My snapper only gets 4 hp per foot at best. It would be a 25% upgrade but short of the Case by a good bit.

I am looking in the used market and would like to know the total hours a machine will last. The Case gets its hp at 2100 rpm. I saw a diesel Dixie Chopper that had 35 hp at 3000rpm. It turn 50% more for the same hours. I do not think it would last the 5000 hours the Case is capable of with pto work.

I am not against a gas engine if the remaining hours are sufficient.

Thanks
Dean
