curiosiity got the better of me
i did a little lp locate this morning and was putting my tools up and i heard a rattle, same rattle i have been hearing for years.
i got my dynatel second hand years ago, the antenna always had a rattle in it sooo, i decide to take a look see. very interesting circuitry, the horizontal coils are peak antenna, the vertical are null antenna, the upper and lower circuit boards have me bumfuzzled at the moment. the rattle is a 5.185 mhz filter, i don't know if i'll solder it or farm it out to someone that does solder work as a professional. damn right it gets farmed out ![]() interesting thing is that the dynatel work great as it is, with the filter back in place maybe it'll work greater.

That's a pretty easy fix if you have any solder skills at all. A little solder, an iron and a solder sucker and you should be back in business in less than 10 minutes. The through hole boards are easy to work on, the surface mount stuff can get tricky, especially with the many pin IC's.

I tried to fix a RM remote with soldering. It was not easy. I decided after that experience to leave soldering to the experts. Practice makes perfect.

No today. No parties. Just beer, nachos, and Rangers. I've been avoiding FCBK all day. I wish I had signed up as an anonymous business and not as a real person on that place.

watching a one eyed guy solder is almost like watching a cub bear pull his pud, my dog even gave up on me.
it's done and will go back together after cooling and repositioning, said that too soon, had to re-solder 1 connection. she's good to go, i did a decent (i hope) job and nobody lost any new body parts besides, i saved a ride to town and $30.00. a quick try out and the passive frequencies are working, this was the issue i hadin locating the decoders passively, induction clamp and all frequencies work well, maybe even better but getting on a job will tell the tale. i thought that some might like looking into an antenna, it was an eye opener to me, i've had usa locators tell me that they thought the rattle was the coil was loose from the antenna shield. thanks for looking it just started raining or i'd have taken pics |
