Something doesnt seem right on that solenoid. Ive never really paid much attention to indexing valves but seems to be invaluable if you needed to add a zone. Look like a maintenance headache. Would love to install a few just to make a couple people scratch their heads up here.

How big is that well casing and what is it for?

Not really sure. The large galvanized as far as I know goes to some sort of fire suppression system.
