Dont even waste your time with the Kubota. Dont get me wrong they make a great engine but in this case it doesnt have near the power or torque of the 28 cat. Especially if you are talkin even close in price i would say buy the Cat and dont look back.

I've got the same Kubota diesel engine (D902) on my Grasshopper 722D 52".
Mine is tuned for 22HP and averages .6 gallon per hour.

It has nearly 3,000 hours so far with no issues, except for one broken fan belt
and one faulty fuel-shutoff solenoid (easily replaced).

I also have two other liquid-cooled Kubota engines (gasoline) that
have 7,200 and 5,000+ hours with no internal problems.

Highly recommended!

I have experience with the engine but not with it on a scag. Is the 26hp in your kubota a small block like the 25 in the scag? I know my rep said that they sell almost no kubotas just because of them being underpowered. If they both had the same power i would say Kubota all the way but i am just going by all i have been hearing. Plus i believe they are eliminating the 25 this year.

Only if you want to save thousands of dollars in fuel costs, engine replacements and downtime :-)

We always liked the kubota and it is not under powered, I have not used it in a scag, but have used that engine in a kubota zd25 and it was fine. However we also had zd28s that felt more at home. I doubt you would ever have issues with either, we stick with kubota and now also have zd326s
