I have to go V10!

I need an extended cab on my F350 and dealer says nobody will hang a plow on an EC F350 with a PSD. So I guess my only option is a V10. I'll be pulling a 5000# trailer, the V10 will handle the workload I have planned for it just fine. Would've like to have the PSD, but it's not an option for me at this time.

I've done a search for info on the V10 and everyone agrees that it is a great engine, lots of power, but is very thirsty. Guess I'll just have to deal with it.

I have the 99 F-250 Super Duty Lariat with the V-10. It is thirsty but it will pull with the PSD all day. I have yet to find something it wont pull with authority. I got 10 mpg pulling a 6000 lb enclosed trailer on a recent road trip (70 mph average with A/C on max), and I get like 9.4- 10 mpg in the city with the same trailer. Go figure.

Hoopsfan,

Check with installing a Fisher plow, maybe even snow-way.

I have a 2000 Super Duty F-250, I got a 7'6" Fisher mainly for the lots I plow for turn around size.

I do have to put 450 lbs of ballast in the bed with the plow.

If you are buying new, check to see if the front springs have the "X" rating, then you will be alright.

If the truck doesn't have the "X" rated springs you can get extra springs added and have the truck re-rated.

Green Pastures the V 10 will not pull with a PS in the elevation out here. A friend with a PS said he and another guy with a V 10 were hauling hay. Both trucks stock, and both loads of hay the same. He said the V 10 kinda kept up with him until the first hill they hit. After that he never saw the guy with the V 10 until they got to where they were going.

I admit the V 10 is powerful, and fun to drive. But when it comes to big load pulling it will never keep up to the stroke. By big I mean loads in the 20,000 lb to 28,000 lb range. Not 6000.

I have a '00 F250SD V10 extended cab long bed SRW. I'm very happy with it.

That said, there is no good reason not to hang a plow on a diesel. My neighbor has an F350 SD diesel with a plow.

Check the Western web site -- the only caveat they give is to get the plow package.

Brickman,

I'm speaking from my experience and I live at like 20 feet above sea level!!! We don't see to much diff between the PSD and the V10 here at sea level. Except mileage
