Ford 6.4 Powerstroke?

How are these 6.4's holding up? I'm looking at diesels and have been told to stay away from the 6.0 from people who have them.
I know Ford has a 6.7 out this year, but a local dealer has an 08 F250 SC xlt 4x4 long bed with 44k miles for 28900.00...with the 6.4 diesel. Any thoughts?

any "new" diesels all have problems comparied to the past. personally, i would not touch any of them and neither will my mechanic

I like the 7.3, but find one with under 200k on it for a decent price in good shape. Most of the used by owner sales have high miles and the trucks are well abused.

Ive had 3 of the 6.4's. The first one had some problems, the last two have been flawless. One's getting ready to roll over 100,000 miles. I would by another one with no questions asked, only downside is fuel mileage. I'm averaging 11.5 on my 08 f-450 pickup.

The new engines are supposed to be getting around 15-16 is what im hearing on the 450's. Not too worried about it because i wanted the truck, but from what i've heard the 250's arent getting good gas mileage either.

The 6.4 is good if you eliminate the emmission stuff but then again that is illegal. Supposidly if you do eliminate the egr and regen crap the mileage goes up and so does the reliability.

Seen a few 6.7 trucks on the road they are very quiet haven't looked under the hood yet.

I have a 2008 F-250 with the 6.4L and I love the way the truck looks but has been nothing but a pain in my a$$ since I bought it ... as of right now it has 215,000 miles on it and I havent driven it since Thanksgiving when the high pressure turbo went out on it and sucked the fins into the motor..... Have had two blown head gaskets had the head studs done and replaced the radiator three times. all ofcourse after 100,000 miles.

Yeah any new diesel seems to have its problems,
I have heard a lot more good from the new diesel engines. The 6.0 that ford put of seemed to be the worse but then again you hear guys saying that they haven't had a problem with them. The new 6.7 is a ford made engine where in previous years it was an international. Maybe ford was sick of all the previous problems and finally stepped up to the plate with something good this time.
I have been looking at purchasing a newer truck too so maybe we can both get some good feedback here.

I've been looking at the 06- 09s. There's a new 2011 F250 for $37.5k It's a super cab, xl with power options, 4x4..6.7 diesel and an 8' bed. Usually buy used but I'm wary of the 6.0-6.4's right now.
