Which software?

I am a new solo operator looking for the best software solution for my business. I've read a lot of the threads on this site and have looked at reviews online etc. but am still having a hard time settling on which software to use. It seems as though the consensus leans toward Quickbooks but the reviews I'm reading online are not encouraging. I don't want to spend a ton of money on a program that has too way too many features for my current needs and would require excessive annual upgrade costs. My cpu's OS is Vista 64-bit and most reviews on QB indicate there a major conflict issues. Any additional advice would be helpful.

If your worried about conflicts with the software and 64bit Vista try an online software like quickbooks online or gopher. I have windows XP Pro and use quickbooks. Your best bet is to use a netbook or laptop with windows XP or Windows 7 and you can bring it with you anywhere.

We use Quickbooks with a Vista 32bit OS with no problems.

Get the QB's now, you will end up there eventually. Hire a bookkeeper for a couple of hrs to help you set it up right.

I would start off simple, like Quicken and then you can always upgrade to QB if you ever hire employees. Keep your cost down for now. Quicken will most likely do whatever it is that you need done and more. I use Quicken Home & Business only because I need something to intergrate to my online banking. I download all transactions from my back to Quicken H&B. I only spend 20 minutes a month on bookeeping.

Gopher Software

Gopher software would be great for you! They have 3 different levels that unlock different features. It is a one time fee to download it. I used that for two years and loved it! I just switched to another billing system that allows online bill pay but kinda regret the change. I still have the gopher software to fall back on though! It is make specifically for landscapers unlike quickbooks so it might better suit your needs. I have never used quickbooks so I really can't give my opinion on them. Go to Gopher's website to see if it will work for you!
