Placing flyers in zip bags..

i made an ad for leaf removal...did it four times on a regular sheet of paper..1000 copies equals 4000 ads, had the copy folks cut them too...ordered 4000 zip lock bags on the web, small, about 3x5...folding the ads in half with writing facing out, place a rock in it, and toss in drive ways...has anyone ever done this...might be wasting my time but the idea of walking to all of the front doors does not excite me...hopefully i can get 1000 or so out before the cops try to cite me for littering...anyone else tried this and had any luck???

I think it's kind of tacky putting rocks in bags and throwing them in the driveway. Take the extra time and take them up to the door. I think alot of members here would agree.

You can buy doorhanger bags at www.realgreen.com. Or have some nice doorhangers made up. They look more professional than a zip lock bag with a rock and small ad. Just my .02.

Good Luck.

I definately agree. Talk about a bad first impression for your business. My first thought would be "they are too lazy to walk to my front door". Imagine what they would think of your work ethic. Now I completely understand about not being too enthused about walking to all the front doors, I feel the same way. But if it's really that bad, just hire some kids for a few bucks to do if for you. Maybe get the local paperboy to drop them off when he is collecting and has to walk up to each door anyway.

no offense but i do not remember asking whether it was professional or not..i was simply asking for folks that might have tried this in the past and if there was any success in their process...around here it is common for people to advertize in this form..before i sold my house i know i must have picked up at least 5-7 of those little bags in 4.5 yrs...not once did i think that the person that threw it there was too lazy to walk it to the door..i did think to myself at the time "mmmm not a bad idea to reach alot of prospects..
as far as hiring kids to walk them, i can see them placing a flyer on doors with one or two yearling trees in the yard..doing it my way i can take a few seconds to inspect the property from the street and toss the bag if it looks like there is wokd to be done...
again, not trying to step on your toes about your opinion, you are certainly entitled to it, but at this time i'll pass...if i can reach 2500-4000 homes and have 20 or so folks feel like i was too lazy to walk it to the door i'll take it...the object is to get some type of exposure to as many people as possible...

Why the hell did you ask if you dont want our opinions. Do a search and see how many members were stupid enough to throw a bag of rocks with their companys name attatched at potential clients homes, and how it worked out for them. Sounds like a great marketing plan to me, but I dont remember you asking my opinion.

geeezzz....lighten up....I have done 900 of the 'throw and go rock in the bag' flyers in the past 3 weeks....it was for aeration and turf renovation...have not received a single call. I dropped them at the base of the mailbox. Reason for no response might be partially due to this god awful heat and dry weather...many people I talked to have said they have just given up on having their lawn worked on...who knows...Couple weeks ago I got bitchslapped here on this site for this 'tacky' approach. I will agree it is more like littering ...frankly I dont give a rats bottom if its tacky....I just dont have the time to get thousands of these on door knobs....now trying classified ads...no response on those yet either.. Just want to mention the fact that the largest pizza delivery chain in the United States does mass marketing by littering at the base of your mailbox...their name is Dominos... THey drop a little cup with a flyer inside of it. I'm not suggesting that buying a pizza and buying landscape services is apples to apples....but...getting different ideas cant hurt...in the end all that matters is the business that is generated....

kitzy--thx for the info...i guess some folks get so involved in critisizing stuff that they forget what the question is...i'm like you, i don't are if it looks tacky, i do not have the time to pass out several thousand flyers door to door, nor the funds for all of the door hangers..i do have the classified's out too...they just came out...i have had great numbers w/ the ads...just changed it more towards fall type stuff last week...
nu83--you are right, i did not ask for your opinion..if i wanted thoughts/opinions it would have looked like this----------i am doing this, blah blah blah blah--what are your opinion's...i simply wanted data from folks that's it...i already know some folks in here think it looks tacky..but i tell you what i'll do, i will make sure that i do not toss one in their driveway

yea I was a little harsh, I apologize for that. You tweaked a nerve when you critisized people trying to help you out.

I'm not going to pass judgment as to if it is tacky or stupid. I wouldn't mainly because it takes so much longer to prepare them. You could take the slips up to the door or place them in a news paper box much faster...IMO

I do know that I have seen these little bags with make money from home ads in them at yard I cut. I ran over one with my mower one day and it threw the rocks across the road into another yard. I was glad a car was not coming.
