Working on a 41* slope...

We are designing a job where we need to build 48 stone steps into a hill leading down to a lake. This is a very steep, tight lot. The slope has a 41 percent slope.

My question is, will my pc150 be able to hold the slope? What I am going to do is get the machine facing up and down on the slope. All my stone and gravel will get dumped into the bucket of the excavator with my skid, and then ill run the excavator back up the hill. Will I have problems with the machine on such a steep slope?

A 1 to 1 slope is 45% if that helps. That's pretty steep.

That is where an excvator with a blade works great. When working on a steep hill I drive up backwards and level the cab using the blade. Gotta be somewhat perfectly level so when you swing around loaded, you don't tip.

It will hold the slope, I have pics of a 330 on a 2:1, but I would use a mini excavator with a blade to use as an anchor and well as the blade can level you off somewhat to make it safe.

Quick correction -- 1 to 1 is 45°, not 45%. 1 to 1 is 100%.

(Just a typo on Digdeep's part I'm sure.)

I'd have to pass on being on a 1:1 slope with a PC150. It might not sound very steep just talking about it on here but put a machine on a 45* angle and see how tight your butt puckers up.

Let alone if the ground gets wet you'll be at the bottom of the hill in a heart beat.

I have dug foundations on 30 degree slopes and it sucks..bad. Everytime you swing it changes the weight on the tracks and you slide. I was in mud/snow for most of the time but at 41 degrees unless your just sitting there and using the Ex in some very limited capacity your going to slide, not to mention at that angle your oil uptake, fuel, hyd fluid might suck air. I would say get a telehandler or something. If you do use the Ex, swing very slow, and periodically I would put the boom down in front of you to level the machine for a couple minutes incase your starving something. Sounds like a bad deal.

I don't doubt it would hold the slope in most cases, but he wants to tram up and down the hill. IMO it would be too unsafe, and as Ksss said, might be too steep for the engine oil pick-up.

I wouldn't do it in a conventional machine particularly if you will end up in a lake if it slides. sub a menzi. lol
