Preventing Winter Kill

It looks like in our part of the state we are still fairly dry for the needs of the shrubs/trees to make it through the winter... ground is still dry about a foot down in many areas...

Is anyone encouraging h.o. to soak their plantings one last time before putting the hoses away???

Arbs and Yews are especially subject to winterkill and this season is freezing up w/out adequate moisture in the ground around here...
was wondering if anyone else is seeing the same thing in their area???
