I think it can be a good paver to get your feet wet. It's more forgiving with bond lines and once you get the pattern figured out you can really fly. The big headache is if your not able to cut the edges in descently againts a wall etc.

Yeah, it does go up against a wall of the house - a corner with the front steps and a wall. It meanders out some and makes contact with the driveway too.

Lay the corner ones out on plywood or something and cut them there and then put them in place?

That's how I just did a few small landings. Just keep everything in order so when you go to put the paver in thier place you won't have any out of order pavers to make your life miserable. Depending on the design you can lay them as close as possible and cut in place for a soldier course with 6x9 or something like that.
