When to do spring cleanouts

I have read through other thread about cleanouts and why we do them, but I have another question and didnt want to get off topic on the other post.

When is the best time to do a spring cleanout in the midwest?

Is it right after all the ice melts and you can get in?

Or

Is it better to wait until the water warms up for the bacteria to get going again?

I would think the sooner the better. But, what do I know. Where I am the only ice I deal with is in my Bourbon 'n' Branch.

What the heck is Branch?

Ponddude, I try to due mine when it is physically possible to play in the water. Plus it helps when all the plants are still dormant and they are eaiser to work with if they need attention.

Bourbon 'n' Branch is Bourbon and water. Can't believe you have never heard it called that.
