First of all - yes, if I am busy I WILL answer the phone. And if it is someone wanting to SPEND money with my company I WILL stop what I'm doing and I WILL take the time to talk to them.
Same here

I would agree. Like DVS, we have other services that have nothing to do do with hardscaping that we provide.

The only place that we advertise these services is on Craigs List. Our ads clearly state:

it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests

Despite that, these goofs ignore that & still call which really PMO

Zedo,

I know EXACTLY the company you are talking about. Been doing that for years, actually. And not just with hardscape supplies. They do it for cleaning supplies, lawn care supplies, etc. But it's always the same M.O. They always have my first name and always treat me like we've known each other forever.

Thankfully I haven't answered the phone at my office for years now. So my office manager filters all that crap out for me. She doesn't even let me know they called unless it really seems like it's something I should know about.

Those guys are clowns. I always hung up on them.

yeah - the asking for me by first name is always the first sign! I have conditioned myself for such circumstances.

It goes like this:

Ring Ring, Ring Ring.....

Me: Hello ( I never answer with the Company name for out of area or unrecognized incoming area codes)

Caller: Good Morning Andrew

Me: I'm sorry, who are you trying to call

Caller: Trying to reach Andrew, is this the hardscape company?

Me: No I'm sorry, you have the wrong number

And in most cases I never hear from them again. Wrong number they're told, so they delete it and move on.

I'll do the same next time.

One time they actually pulled another landscaper from the book who I knew real well and said that " he buys from me all the time and he recommended I call you". I told him I wasn't in the market for blades and didn't really have time to discuss it. So I called with the guy who supposedly bought this guys blades and he told me that he had never bought one!
These guys are ruthless.

The clown that pisses me off says,

"Lee, don't you ever stop working?!"

And he kinda says it loud. Pisses me off.
