I see various labs advertising soil testing service and i also see some fairly inexpensive ph,soil salt and fertility testers.Are the portable ones accurate? Any problems with them that i cant see from here? Thanks for replies.

I understand that the Kelway ph tester is fairly accurate. I think the price of it is about $100 to $110.

I would buy a professional model if you are going to buy one. As far as one of the inexpensive probe types, no they aren't accurate for long. Spend $100 or so and have a real tool. Otherwise, the chemical tests used for aquariums are really cheap and accurate.<p>John

Have had a Kelway in use for 12-15 yrs. Readings are always right on soil lab results.<p>----------<br>Jim<br>North central Indiana

how would you use an aquarium test kit to check soil. You normally would put water in the recipient and add the drops. Do you just put in soil and add drops?????????
