the new muffler finally showed up today. now it's not the correct one but aint no way i was gonna give the dealer (or online website) $500 for a new one i did extensive research and found 2 different ones that were sposed to be quieter anyway i went to the mount my first choice and it turns out to be the same size as the nipple on the tractor so instead of goin right out and buying a sleeve i decided to make one quick just to make sure if it works and is quieter. (which it aint so i may try muffler suggestion #2) slight problem no sheet metal or metal coffee can but i found a great substitution although i must warn you the following pic may be considered graphic by some and is not for the faint of heart...

don't wory craig it was an empty it sounded just as loud as it did with the blown muffler on there but spendin 30 to have it sound just as loud was a lot better than spendin 500 even my father said it sounds the same and hea's deef i'll prolly get the other muffler i had found someone usin in a wheelhorse forum and save this one for the snow blower.

i remember when bill called me the macguyver of ff and well you may be right bill after this inpromptu can sleeve worked a good soldier must be able to adapt to and use the environment around him
