Only an idiot double cuts. "Stripes" are overrated.

Your stripes look very bright and nice. A lot of companies would envy that. With double cutting every week you are cutting into your profit a lot. I run a brand new Lazer Z and only need to cut once. If you are needing to cut twice check the spindles and the blades to make sure they are greased and sharpened properly. I had that issue with my Scag Turf Tiger. It is a lot of unnecessary hours and ware on the machine to use it more than needed. The proper technique for cutting a lawn is 2 alternating directions for a period of time than adding a 3rd direction. This allows you to cut each blade properly each week. Laying blades in one direction all season long does not allow the turf to get the proper sun light for a healthy growth. You will eventually have major compaction issues and possibly mold. Also lower the deck about a 1/4 inch or maybe a 1/2 inch. This will help with the double cutting. Let the larger blades do what they need to. They are re-germinating to the existing turf. The stripes look good though. Just wanted to pass on some advice.

Double cut every lawn? ...and evidently in the same stripe all the time? Like your lawns Ben, but that is crazy and unnecessary. Stripe obsession is becoming an ugly thing.

What is the reason for it? And don't say "appearance"

The striping is just an added bonus when im done.

Like i said i dont "need" to double cut to stripe the lawns, the machine stripes and leaves the yard looking fine on one cut, Im just wicked anal, and very particular when it comes to my work, Its likely my military past that made me very anal about the finished product.

I change direction evey 2 weeks when i cut, i cut one direction for 2 weeks then change them. The only reason it looks like i only cut one direction is the striping kit and the double cutting pretty much eliminates the traces of the previous weeks lines. leaving it to look as tho i only mow one direction.

I also scrape the deck every morning, and change the blades every few days to ensure i have a clean deck and sharp blades at all times.
