ferris ztr, who has em
Just wondering if the suspension is enough reason to buy one. Who can tell me how they compare to a rigid frame with a suspension seat?
Will be for residential 3 acre but not the smoothest lot out there. (new home seeded a month ago) Local dealer has a 1500 with the 28 vanguard, I like the feel of the Huslter Z much better but can't get past the suspension on the Ferris. thanks Also Big Dog mowers, any comments? |

I love my ferris, you cant beat the suspension, also check out snapperpro, there the same as ferris just without suspension, and a great value.

I own an '04 1000Z.
The cut, dependability and ride comfort can only be exceeded by the "IS" versions that have been introduced after this unit was produced. Keep up the PM on your machine and the dealer will still be your friend but you won't be funding his new shop expansion. Parts can be a bit pricey. If you choose to replace worn parts with Ferris OEM's. My reasons for choosing a Ferris is that I've had numerous surgical procedures ad the mere thought of bouncing around my on my Yanmar compact tractor for the hours it would take to accomplish the task of mowing would mean several doses of pain medications followed by a day of recuperation somewhere between the 6th and 7th planets. In the 60's I would've preferred the orbital mission compared to the anti-war protests and racial tensions. Nowadays, I much prefer a smooth ride, clean manicured grounds and a quiet glass of merlot after dinner with the Mrs. PM me if you wish and we discuss this further. I've got friends on both sides of the creek. Don't know how far "Upstate" you might be? |

A 1500z model is not a front independant suspension, we have one, but still drives pretty nice. A 2000z will be same as the 3100 series and bigger and is better suspension up front We have a 1500/2000/3100 with suspension and a 06 1000z w/0 any suspension, i love the machine to death but goddam, sit on the other machines for a few hours then hop on that thing and your teeth rattle lose.. just like every other ztr out on the market! We buy a lot from local Deere dealer.. nice machines, but he cannot sell me a new ZTR deere even if he discounted it almost half price!

We have a bunch of em, plus a 1000z 61" 27hp kohler non suspension, and boy is anything NON suspension rough after you get off one of these machines! See if your dealer will let you demo a is1500z or is2000z for the day , at the end of the day, your last lawn, jump on your current zero turn and you'll understand. The deere dealer we buy everything from cant give me one of their machines. He always asks when theyll get our mower business, and i always say when Deere has something better than the rest with suspension so their $10k+ of green painted metal doesn't bust my spine lose

none of ours have the new ICD deck but from what ive heard and seen, its on par with the best of the best out there like the exmark triton 5 or 6 decks and JD 7iron stamped... thats my only complaint is that the suction lacks on the ferris standard decks of the last bunch of years compared to the very best out there... nothing holds a candle to the reverse rotating discharge blade on our Simplicity Legacy xl 27hp diesel garden tractor with 60" shaft deck, it makes all the zero turn done lawns look "commercial vs professional" Strips perfect, cuts anything perfect, no straglers, nothing pops back up, suction is supreme... ah well, we use that deck on the tractor 10hrs a year though :/
