Top Dressing Lawn in MA

Does anyone know how much compost one would need to cover about an acre of lawn? My soil is terrible and hard clay. I figure if its not to expensive, I'd finally start improving the soil.

1/4-1/2" is what you should be looking at for a compost top dress on turf. At the 1/2" depth you need 1.5 yards of compost per 1000 square feet. I think you can figure out the rest.

Let me know when you figure out how you're going to do that. I've got a couple of acres here that would benefit greatly from compost if I could figure out a practical & cost effective way to spread it.
