STIHL FS56 weed trimmer / bush trimmer GEAR HEAD

I forgot about this till last night. The diameter of the trimmer shaft is 1", the cable shaft is 5/8 of an inch long and is 3/16" wide square.

Stihl's are made in Germany and therefore metric. I am trying to fit a 24.0mm tube, not 25.4mm (1"). A 1" tube will not fit in a 24mm hole.

My tube is 24.0mm. A 1" (25.4mm) tube will not fit in a 24mm hole. This is a deal breaker.

My flat is 20mm long. 5/8"= 15.9mm. This might work as it is shorter and may have enough engagement to spin some string.

My square is 5.12mm. 3/16" = 4.7mm. It'll fit, but loosely. May need to be shimmed.

Please confirm your measurements with more accurate instruments. Calipers for the shaft diameter and square size.

The newer ones come out of Virgina Beach, VA. These are close measurements, but will have to see if I can find a caliper to get closer but don't think these parts will be a good match.

OK. I am sure they are being made to metric specifications. Everyone does, except for tooling manufactures. Which I'm one of those.
