I think the old saying goes: "failure to plan is planning to fail"

Yeah I wrote one out. Even though im a solo operator, ive found that by putting down all the thoughts in my head into a cohesive plan, really helps me focus on what I want to accomplish.

Take the time to do it, its well worth it.

Yeah, I wrote a business plan but I can't remember the last time I looked at it. I know the main goals, but lots of specifics keep changing. I agree with the other's; It's a good process to go through because it makes you think everything out. I'll probably update mine this winter for next season. We did ours as a family, and our 8 year old boy is into it and actually comes up with some pretty good ideas. He even copied it over, with illustrations!

A business plan is a map for your business. As the "terrain' of your business changes, so must your "map".

There is a lot of good software out there, including Business Plan Pro software. You can pick it up at any office supply store.

oh yea

Ive been working on mine as well. Started it a couple weeks ago and am close to being finished. Im not starting up untill probably late dec or early jan so i have a bit if time to get my ducks in a row. I had soo much info laying around scribbled on the back of envelopes and napkins. Once i put everything i had into an organized plan, it just seemed to come together... a nice road map so to speak. Of course it will change, that is the nature of business and a business plan must be flexible as well. but it has really helped me get "somewhat" organized. Business Plan Pro 2003 is a great program. Anyone need a copy? Ill point you in the right direction for a free one.

later

having one certainly won't hurt. i made one, it was pretty intense as it was being submitted to qualify for a government grant. used much of my material from university, so for me it was relatively easy to put together.

i honestly never look at it now. i think for some having a business map is good, keeps them on target. for myself, it is all in my head, just never took the time to update the plan.
