I guess we need an Exmark rep to clarify. My manual says 25 microns 10psi bypass on the 109-4180. I bought some aftermarket filters a few yrs ago and I've never used them because they are 10 microns . I'd rather not risk a $2000 hydro system unless I know for a fact it's ok to run them.

I bought some from J-Thomas...haven't had any trouble...but I didn't find most of the micron stuff out until after I had put them on...I will probably go back with the Exmark ones....just because I don't want to jeopardize a 2000.00 hydro system over 15 or so bucks on a filter.

I know this is an older thread.

I was using the hydro-gear filters I could get them for less than $10 a piece. I started researching into it and it seems all of the aftermarket filters for Exmark are 10 micron so I went back to the oem 25 micron bi-directional Exmark filter.

I get them from parts-tree $23.67. I try and order them with other items so as not to pay a shipping charge for just a filter.

Has anybody had any problems running the 10 micron filter?

In December, I paid $14.22 for a hydro filter for my JD 717A. It is a OEM product, from GreenParts.com. I have only used OEM hydro filters for this JD.

I have used only Exmark or Toro filters for my Exmark w/b Viking. I went back and looked at prices, $14-$19 over the past several years (mix of Toro and Exmark, but new one each year).

As others have said, the price for failure is very high. These OEM prices are very cheap over against a hydro repair. The risk is too high for my blood.

All the discussion above regarding OEM vs. aftermarket is regarding micron filter count. While this may be important, wouldn't pressure relief valve specs be important as well?

Hydro filters for all my Scags are $12.95 from my Scag dealer. Kawasaki and Kohler filters are $8.99.
The air filters are $16.88 for the Donaldson type filter setup. These are all OEM filters.

Try Rotary # 9361. Might get it cheaper and it has the same specs as a direct replacement.

I'm wary of using non-OEM hydro filters....But on all of these threads I have never seen anyone speak of a failure with an aftermarket filter.
Seems odd....
