No. He says that the failed gasket causes drop in crank case vacuum which causes the motor to push oil through the small 1-2 inch long black hose that goes from the head to the air filter on the KAI models.

Sure enough, when I took the air filter assemply off, oil was saturated inside this short hose with a few drops dripping out. The mechanic has it diagnosed correctly. Will be putting it all back together this weekend and firing her back up!

Awww shucks...... Ya done made me feel bad now......


With crankcase vacuum is crankcase PRESSURE, You were getting oil up into the air filter assembly through the crankcase breather hose. Two things can cause this; A faulty breather check valve/reed or worn piston rings/cylinder.

Worn rings/cylinder will cause compression to seep past into the crankcase, This causes the crankcase PRESSURE to rise to the point it has to go someplace. The most common place is through the breather assembly into the air filter assembly.

A inexperienced person can't just look at rings and tell if their good or bad, The cylinder and ring end gap should be checked as outlined in the manual to know for sure.

On a engine with normal running crankcase pressures, If there's any gasket at all that's not sealing, Oil will be blown out.


At-least that's what my 30+ years in this business has shown me.....

OK update...

FINALLY got everything put back together and she starts! But...the motor is running a lot slower. Not nearly as much power.

I had my father adjust the two screws on the carb while it was running and it seemed like the screws made absolutely no change at all.

The original problem was that it was burning oil so I changed all the gaskets and put it back together. Now, there is a new problem... the motor runs slow.

:/ FML

Should I just leave the motor running slow for a while and maybe it will start running stronger? It was apart in my garage for like 2 months.
