best/cheapest time to buy bermuda sod
I know its bermuda season down here in Atlanta, Ga so Im guessing that the prices are kind of high right now. Is there any particular time of year where I can buy bermuda sod cheaper than right now. I'm seeing approx $100/pallet for Tiffway 419 and TiffGrand ( shade tolerant) is running $175-$200/ pallet..
Im wondering if this would be cheaper once its about to go dormant and maybe i should wait until the fall...late fall...? |

I have not noticed a price difference between summer and winter for sod. But i have noticed that bermuda sod sold in the winter has a light rate of ryegrass for color that severely weakens that sod. Bottom line - don't buy overseeded bermuda sod.
You should be able to find a better price for 419, keep looking. |

Depending on quantity. There are a few places in Augusta you can get it close to 80 per pallet.
Im sure the delivery fee with put you back to 100 bucks though.

Ricsin1,
If that is the basic cost for tiway 419 at 100.00 then that is pretty good, however I do know that this price is probably by the pallet. When I need 419........it is by the trailer load and the price per pallet drops by 20.00. Remember, short orders usually will cost more to the buyer;especially at nurseries and garden centers. The distance you have to travel is also important as to the cost. If the supply and demand is playing a role here, then during this driving market of fuel expense and other costs it may be your best bet. I am fortunate enough to live withing 25-40 miles from 4 turfgrass growers....pallisades zoysia, 419, tifdwarf. The delivery is of not much importance as buying it lets say--4-5 pallets at a time. It would be better off getting it myself and paying less from the grower. I remember a time when bermuda sod was 30.00 a pallet. Back in the late 80's.
