After all this time I finally ran across my first Smartline controller today.






I must say..... what a wonderful surprise!!

I really liked it!

I see a big downside with these though, or maybe I just don't know the trick yet.

How are you able to check/confirm voltage on the station ports, or if you have a bad module? Luckily I found the problem with the two non-working zones as a field wiring issue, and not with the controller.

As those who are familiar with them the faceplate unplugs from the board when you open it. How are you able to complete the first step of electrical troubleshooting one of these?

Please forgive me if this has been discussed before. I generally disregard info on components I don't or haven't used......I know, shame on me.

The controller reports mA of output for each valve.

So far, so good good on the SLs we have in service; I have a feeling that big dial will go south, eventually.

I like the Smartline controllers. Looks like WM got it right this time.

On a side note I just got some interesting info on troubleshooting the Smartline 2-wire system:
An SL controller with dead short on 2 wire path will not stay on long enough to do any tracing/locating. One contractor came up with the idea of removing one leg of the path and connecting a solenoid to the clock and then to the wire path. Apparently there is sufficient resistance to keep the current going to do the locate.

It kicks on the valve during the test. Id prefer they dump the childish speaker wire connectors and put in real man screw terminals. The disconnecting the power when the door is open is asinine.

Never compared it to a multimeter, so I can't comment on accuracy compared to a multimeter.
