Small pondless...

Ok, well I have been debating whether or not to put this up here. Anyway, I decided to get some opinions on it. It was my first water feature for a paying customer. I have built a few for myself but not for others. I have already found found another possible customer. It will be out at an entrance, so it will have to be good. So if you have anything CONSTRUCTIVE to add, be my guest.

Hold on, this isn't cooperating....

Ok, well the movie maker thing is a PITA. So here are two clips of the whole thing. Its the before and after. We ended up going with a 110 gallon stock tank to set the basin into. I used an easy pro pump and basin. 1 1/4" hose, regular 40 mil pond liner and the fabric under that to protect the liner. The whole thing is about 14 feet from top to bottom. I did end up adding a T in the line so that the water flows over both top boulders. Ill get a pic of that soon.
If you have any advice, or see something that I did wrong, please let me know. I did really enjoy making this feature. I hope to make more.

Sorry, maybe someone else can, but I can't determine anything from these two photos. I see no rock, no water flow, no basin. Looks like a couple of photos of a planting bed. Need better photos

Why did you use a stock tank and a basin (Or do you mean pump vault?). What size pump?

Just not enough info.

click on the pic, they are videos.

The pump is 2200 gph and I used an easy pro basin set inside of a stock tank from TSC. It seemed to be the most cost efficient option and thats what this customer was looking for.

Yea, that's better.

I still don't understand the rationale of a basin sitting inside of a stock tank.

Use more of a variety in size of rock. Utilize a waterfall weir, instead of 'shooting' the water over the rock. Vary the flow pattern.

I'm sure others will weigh in.

Thanks for the input tadpole.

I might be calling the basin the wrong name. The pump sits inside of it. Its plastic and has a lid. I set it inside of a stock tank and filled the stock tank with medina stone.

How would I vary the flow?

OK, as I suspected, you are using a pump vault.

I have no idea what Medina stone is. Rock names and types vary from region to region. The question that this provokes is: what size rock did you use in the stock tank? Any rock that IS used will reduce the volume of water that the stock tank will hold and, if the rock is small, the basin will eventually clog from organic debris. This is why most basins today, whether for a 'Bog Filter' or pondless application utilize either matrix blocks or some type of grating to support an upper layer of gravel. The result is much more water capacity and less frequent clogging and they are considerably easier to clean when needed.

The flow can be varied easily by using varied size rock not only in the waterfall by also in the stream bed which will divert the water in different degrees. Adding small twists and turns to the stream bed will also get you closer to the natural look as will varying the depth.
