Have a credit card pay button on your website. Also get the square(or similar) swiper for your phone. Ive been thinking of doing the auto pay thing. Had one customer ask to do it.

prepays /credits
thanks for the advice. I do plan to get a divice that i can swipe the cards and i,m offering a 10% discount to prepay . the reason for the change in the way i will bill is the same few people just will not pay on time and it effects cash flow.

For some customers, I send them an email with a "pay now" button in it. They can use paypal or credit card.
It's free to set up through paypal, but they get a percentage plus a fee for every transaction. I encourage people to just use their free billpay from their bank. Saves them trouble and postage, and saves me the transaction fees.

We just started credit cards 2 months ago. offered it to all customers and had about half agree to it. our new rule is the first time a customers hits the 45 day mark they are switched to pre pay or credit card payment only. if they say no then i dont want them as a customer. we've had no problems.

there are plenty of good customers out there. if you lose a couple of slow payers don't worry about it. you have a lot better ways to spent your time than chasing bad debt. most of our slow payers were gald we offered the option of credit card payments

The majority of my mowing customers have prepaid for the year. Our mowing season is year round so we cut every two weeks. Annual contracts that are prepaid are given then value added services of quarterly fertilization and chemical weed controls at no extra charge. Not having to chase down payments monthly is worth it for me.
