Stihl MS180 problem

I'm having trouble with my Stihl MS180 chainsaw. The engine bogs down under a load and when just revving the saw.

It was working good and just started in the middle of the job. The saw starts right up and idles good. problem will come and go.

Water, fuel line blockage, or blocked internal screen on the carb.
Possibly a bad fuel line (usually seen on older saws).

Any details on where or how to get to the internal carb screen? The saw has had such little run time on it hard to believe much can be wrong. I use the same gas in other equipment with no problems.

I using fresh gas with Stihl pre measured oil. I have dumped carb cleaner and seafoam in the carb 1/2 doz times.

One other question- Does it hurt to run the saw without the chain/bar? during testing?

No it will not hurt a thing.

Use ethanol treatment also.
1. check spark arrestor screen.
2. take apart carb and inspect diaphragm and screen.
diaphragm should be like thin paper.
also use 89 octane.

Im assuming you already checked the air filter? And to see if the bar and chain are getting enough oil? Of course if it bogs without the bar and chain thats ruled out....

Same problem without the bar and chain.

I gave in a took it to the dealer. The saw had very little use and second time in the shop.

If it's not a fuel restriction, or bad filter or lines, I'd guess an air leak. If the bolts holding the carb/intake to the head get loose it will suck air instead of fuel and won't rev. Could also be clogged exhaust port, spark arrestor screen or air filter, but with so little use they shouldn't be plugged up yet.

you either have a cracked fuel line or a dirty carb. I'm most likely guessing the carb is plugged up since you only had a few tanks through it. The ethanol in the gas pretty much causes most of the problems. Inspect the fuel lines and it they look good, open up the carb and clean it out. Once you fix it, I suggest starting your start and running it for a few minutes every couple a weeks and use the ethanol treatment.

I bought all the following new equipment in March 2011. FS90 weed whip, Br600 back pack blower, FC95 Edger, hedge trimmers.

I use fuel ethanol additive, silver oil and 89 Octane.

All the equipment runs great, except the FS90 weed whipper, which decides on occasion to hard start. Heres the story.

Ran great for about the 1st month, never had to prime or use the choke, it fired right up. Then, the problem started. Would try ot start it and would not fire up, so i would push prime bulb once, try again and get nothing. Would keep pushing prime bulb one push at a time and get nothing. Then, I would try to use the choke = nothing.

The only way the thing would start would be by pulling the rope 10-20 times until it cranked.

Seems to happen mostly the day after it has been used heavily, over an hour at a time.

It is under warranty and will be going back, but i was wondering if anyone had the same issues, or any ideas?
