How many contracts from flyering?

My best friend and I are preparing to start our own landscaping company after working together for someone else for the past 5 years. We are both extremely hard workers and will thrive to make our company succeed no matter what. We were both wondering on average how many contracts could a company pick up with 20,000 flyers. We plan on posting them on every door within a 10 minute drive in every direction, the area is also pretty wealthy. After doing some research, we found that there is approximately 20,000 homes in the area with decent sized yards. Any estimates as to how many we could expect, our goal is 120 in the first season. Is that attainable? We have about 20 others ready to sign

I've heard 1-3% is a realistic number for flyers...

It all depends on what you have on the flyer, as to how successful it will be. Put a specific offer on it, a call to action, a deadline, and a guarantee of your work.
I put out 5000 flyers when I started 5 months ago, and I have 75 new regular lawncare clients. I did not bother to record the one off jobs, but the result was definately better than 3 percent. You guys have some great experts on Direct Response Marketing in the U.S, so I would be learning as much as I could from them before you write the copy. It will be well worth it.

In certain areas I had 1 to 3 thousand flyers go out and get no calls but have had word of mouth get me several lawns in that area. It really comes down to what is said on the flyer timing and a little bit of luck.
