JD F525 with PA540A no start

Hi guys.

I started up the F525 the other day. I started to move forward and switched on the blades and she stalled. Couldn't get it started after that. Let it sit over night and tried it again the next day. Turns over but no start even with quick start. It gave out a couple of very loud back fires. Any ideas? I took out the dip stick and there is no gas smell in the oil.

Thnks for any ideas. I hope the engine isn't screwed up.

I would go ahead and get a replacement spark plug, but when you remove
the old one go ahead and inspect it, see what it looks like (say if it's wet).
Then, install a new one with gap .030

Remove the air filter at this time.
Open the choke, throttle to idle, and crank it about 10 turns of the engine.
Close the choke, throttle still on idle, see if it starts.
Choke still closed, throttle to half, see if it starts.
Open the choke, throttle to idle, give it several cranks (5-6).
Close choke, full throttle, see if it starts.

If that doesn't work, you might try a quick burst of some starting fluid.
If it still doesn't start, you'll want to check for spark (thou the backfire leads me to believe that part is all right).

Just what I would do, boils it down to a method...

Ok.... Pulled the plug today and it was black but not wet. Bought a new plug and installed it.
The Kaw started right up and has never run better. I normally change the plugs when I buy used equipment buy didn't get around to doing this one. Lesson learned.

thnxs guys.

Ran the F525 last fall for a few hours with the new plug and all was well.

Stored the mower over the winter and it started right up last week. Ran fine.

Went to start it again today and would turn over but no start.

Pulled the plug to have a look and it was black with wet gas on it.

Any ideas? Guessing a carb rebuild would be the place to start??

thnxs for your thoughts guys

Update

Started to get into this problem a few months ago.

Noticed the choke was not closing all the way. Adjusted the linkage so the choke closes all the way and all has been good ever since.

Since replacing the battery with a high powered Worka holic the F525 has started and run much better. Even the deck which out of the blue would stop turning is reliable now. A good battery is worth every penny.
