Where we dump, they have a giant concrete block with a metal beam attached to it. I have a pallet with a reinforced 2 foot backstop on it attached to a tow strap. I always keep the tow strap towards the doors on my leaf box so that all we have to do is unhook the trailer, open doors, attach rope to the concrete beam and drive off. The pallet pulls out almost all of the compressed leaves the loader shoots in and all I usually have to do is use the steel tooth rake to clean up around the wheel wells. A dump truck is not in the budget for us, and this method has not failed and we will be doing the same on another truck this year.

Hey Ferris, Check out my pics of my leaf box that i made last year. its in my thread. What size leaf loader did you get?

It was easyer for me(where i dump) to not use the loader to unload the truck, instead make the box so that you can stand up in it. im 6'3" and i could stand in mine, this will help a lot when unloading. Then get yourself one of those good mulch pitchforks, the ones that are almost like a scoop but are a pitchfork. And honestly the leaves would flake out of the truck with out a problem. For the top i did a full mesh tarp, I got it from Harbor Frieght it was like 30 or 40 dollars its not the best but works, and that was just fine for me last year. Good luck

lol thanks guys,
I have built leaf boxes before for my old boss, but just never on a pickup truck. Like I said, I was just concerned about the height, and top-heaviness, and also how much of a pain it is to empty it without a dump insert. Sounds like I have a pretty good idea on what to do, I will post pics when I get it done.
