Replacement engine for Kohler CV15

My Kohler engine has been burning oil like crazy and the oil is dirty in less than 30 minutes of running. The engine is losing power and now will not start. There is a kunking noise when it turns over. This engine last less than 400 hrs on it. I was thinking of replacing the engine instead of rebuilding it but I see that Kohler has retired this engine. There are a few still out there new for sale. Should I try another Kohler or another brand? Thanks

Since the crankshafts are the same in all three go with the best deal, There's nothing wrong with letting a stator hang around for the ride.....
