Anyone Using Smaller Trimmers?

Any guys out there using the smaller CC trimmers? Like the Echo SRM-225 or anything like that? I've been using the Echo for the past year and it seems to do well. Just curious about what you guys run.

I picked up a 225 about a month ago. I wanted a back up but I used it to see if I could use the trimmer to edge to and I got it to work. So now I use it as a primary but I got the 110 stilh if I need some extra power. For some reason I cant use the stilh to edge. Maybe its the extra lbs or maybe I'm just a little slow, but either way I got both when I need them. I wouldn't just have the 225 tho it should be just one tool to choose from.

echo smr 311, I think is our model numbers... why not go big? I have plenty of power for whatever I need. Been running it 4 days a week for 5 years without a problem. I replace the bump head 2-3 times per year.

I use SRM 260T/280T class trimmers now. Not that much heavier and more versatile when you need the extra power. I also seem to get more life out of the pricier ones than the cheap low end Echos I've tried.

With more torque I think you can run at lower rpm and that may lead to longer life as well as less noise and thrown objects perhaps.

I have had a 3100 model (?) and it was indeed too heavy. But they seem to have brought the weight down on the more powerful models in recent years. Or at least it seems so.

In the big picture the extra cost isn't worth worrying about so go with what feels best.

I run the Echo SRM 210 and 230. Fuel lasts much longer with the 230 and it has more power. My back up trimmer is the PAS 265 with trimmer attachment and has more power than the 230.

How does the 225 compare directly with the 210 in performance?

I use a Shindaiwa M231 for routine trimming. I don't feel the need for anything bigger when mowing my regular accounts. I also have a Shindaiwa M2500 and a Stihl FS110 bike handlerbar unit for the tougher stuff. The M2500 is with me daily but the Stihl only comes out to play on special occasions.
