Is it a problem with the recoil, or the engine? More than likely it was over heated and the engine seized.

1. Remove the 4 socket head screws that retain the recoil assembly.
2. Remove the recoil assembly and inspect 3. Does recoil assembly work properly off the engine? 3a If it doesn't, find the problem--rope off reel, broken recoil spring, etc 3b If it does, go to step 4 4. Remove spark plug, crankshaft should turn freely when rotating the starter cup 5. If crankshaft does not turn freely, the piston is most likely locked up in cylinder 6. Pull muffler assembly and check for scoring in cylinder/piston 7. If piston is locked up--decision time--replace piston/rings and jug assuming no other damage, shortblock if available from Echo or start over 8. Check fuel tank for properly mixed fuel/oil. Straight gas--bad news! 4. Remove spark plug--crankshaft should be able to be turned by the starter cup if the engine is not locked up 5. |
