tub grinder rental?
Does anyone know of any in the northeast? I am in CT and have a good size pile to get rid of. New fire marshal is very strict and won't allow this one to burn. It would be too much hassle to rent a regular chipper. Thanks.

We own a tub grinder and I can tell you that no one will rent you one. You can look for a contract grinder to come to you and grind for you. Depending on the material you may get a reduced rate if it is a saleable end product. The operational costs are to high to rent one out for someone. To hire someone will run you around $450-$500 an hour and that does not include the support equipment, meaning loaders to push the material to, and away from the grinder.

I usually burn every winter. We were too busy plowing last year. Now there's 2 year's worth of brush and crap in it with some random pallets, etc.

how much is the fine if you get caught burning? Might pencil out to just get fined. I usually burn in light rain and no one can see the smoke.

I agree may be cheaper to take the fine, and easier. I also burn on Saturday and Sunday as we all know government workers are at home and are not to concerned about things then. I have found the best way to deal with this is to get it hot and get it over with, the hotter the flame the less smoke. Also consider doing it at night when no one can see the smoke.

The Public Works here rents one in the Fall with an operator and it's over $700 an hour.
Really seems paying a fine might be the way to go! |
