toro engage blades and it dies

I have a toro ztr 52 with a kohler 25 on it. When you engage the blades it falls on its face a few times. So I played with the choke a lil and it seemed to help and finally it cleaned out and it seemed to work. But it idle at all unless the choke is 1/4 of the way out. any suggestions? I am thinking carb.

Clean the carburetor. Check out this section of the Kohler 25 hp engine service manual....

Pull your sparkplugs. If 1 is good and the other fouled, you may have a leaking intake gasket.
